Zafa tourney produces four penalty shootouts

FOUR matches in the first round of the Zafa Njeya Investment­s Easter Tournament ended in thrilling penalty shootouts.

In the first division, Santos beat Peace Lovers 4-3 after the match finished scoreless at the end of regulation time. In the second round played later in the day, Santos beat Real Strikers 4-1.

In the second match to end up in a shootout, Black Eagles beat Stone Breakers 6-5 in a sudden-death shootout after the teams played to a 2-2 draw.

In the first round played earlier, Stone Breakers beat Everton 1-0.

In the premier league section, Real Stars edged Dynamos 5-4 on penalties after being 1-1 at full time.

Nubs beat Juventus 4-3 on penalties after also being 1-1 after regulation time.

In the most one-sided match in the tournament so far, Major Stars thrashed Makhawula 10-0. The tournament continues this weekend. On Saturday, Rose beat Eastern Jumpers 1-0. Jumpers drop to fourth, five points behind Rose.

PE Sundowns, who are second, scored eight goals without reply at the weekend.

On Saturday, they thrashed PE United 6-0 and followed it up with a 2-0 win over Real White City.

Red City, who are three points behind the log-leaders, beat City Defenders 2-1.

The two matches scheduled to be played at New Brighton Oval last Friday will be played this evening at the same venue: 6pm – Boast Pirates v City Defenders, 7.30pm – Red City v CCX Callies.
