Stars fail to shine against lowly Real Strikers

TOMORROW Stars failed to close the gap at the top of the Mofa Build-It Premier League on Sunday when they were held to a surprise goalless draw by lowly Real Strikers.

After they beat Crystal Palace 1-0 on Saturday, a win would have put them within two points of Young Madrid, who beat Subs 1-0.

It was a disappoint­ing weekend for Subs, who lost 2-1 to Manchester United in their second match. It was an excellent weekend for United, who leapfrogge­d from ninth to fourth after beating Real Strikers 1-0.

Lion Stars moved from the bottom of the log when they beat Tottenham Spurs 1-0. Spurs are now last.

The match between Highland Spurs and Young Madrid was postponed due to poor light.

GLENVILLE kicked off their defence of the Nafa Premier League cup with an easy 3-1 win on Saturday.

Two matches, Booysens Pride v Fairdene and Westlake v Park United, were called off as the fields in Booysen Park and Windvogel lacked goalposts.

In the only match played on Sunday, Rangers made their debut in the Premier League on the back foot, going down 2-1 to Blackpool. Jonneton Pokbas and Zachery Jackson scored on either side of the break.

Gregory Damons scored for Rangers three minutes before the final whistle.

AFRICAN Chiefs thrashed Trymore 10-1 to retain their place at the top of the Larofa VW Community Trust Premier League table on Saturday.

Westhill United, who are two points behind, battled to a 3-2 win over Atlantic Spurs, who are 10th.

The match between title contenders Young Chiefs and Langa Citizen was called off following a dispute about players’ cards.
