No show from ‘Qina’ star leaves organisers fuming
FORMER Generations actor Anga Makubalo, known as Naakmusiq in the music industry, failed to pitch up for three performances in Nelson Mandela Bay at the weekend.
The Qina hitmaker was scheduled to perform at Platinum Lounge in Zwide at a Black Affair event on Sunday and also, on the same day, at Club La Dee Das in Gelvandale.
Yesterday, he was booked to perform at the Freedom Day celebrations at the Wolfson Stadium in Kwazakhele.
Thembekile “Fresh” Mdlazilwana, who booked Makubalo to perform at Platinum Lounge two months ago, said he was very disappointed.
“We booked flights and accommodation in advance. The club was full as our patrons paid to see their favourite artist perform.”
Mdlazilwana said they waited for him at the airport, but after three flights from Johannesburg there was still no sign of him.
“We even went to check at La Dee Das. He only sent a message that he missed a flight. We had a huge problem trying to explain to the crowd that he was not coming.
“People are saying all kinds of nasty things about the club . . . that we never booked Makubalo in the first place but only used his name to fatten our wallets, which is not the case.
“All we want now is a refund because we spent a lot of money organising the event,” he said. There was also no sign of Makubalo at yesterday’s Freedom Day celebrations at the Wolfson Stadium.
Mazizi Msuthu, president of The City of Champions who partnered with the municipality to organise the event, said he was very disappointed.
“These people were all looking forward to see him perform,” Msuthu said.
Makubalo said he had missed the initial flight to Port Elizabeth on Sunday.
“I tried booking flights today [yesterday] so I could at least do the stadium gig but all the flights were fully booked. I sent out some updates on social media apologising for letting them down.
“I would never intentionally do that. I understand that they may be upset, but I’ll make it up to them.
“PE is my home town and I’d never disappoint them intentionally.”
