Helenvale, Wolves steal lead in Nafa league

AFTER the latest round of matches Helenvale and Wolves are the unlikely pacesetter­s in the Nafa Premier League.

Both are unbeaten, with Helenvale on 12 points and Wolves two points behind following their draw in their opening match.

On Sunday Helenvale beat Bloom Callies 2-1 while Wolves thrashed Fairdene 4-1. Westlake and Blackpool are three points behind.

On Friday Westlake extended their unbeaten run with a 2-1 win over Saints.

Bashier Kemp gave Westlake an early lead but 10 minutes before the break Saints were on level terms. Sergio Adams clinched the match for Westlake in the second half.

Blackpool also maintained their unbeaten record with a 2-0 win over Stardrift, who are without a point after four matches.

Denver Kroukamp opened the scoring almost on the stroke of halftime following a well-taken free kick by Johnneton Pokbas. Callon van Niekerk sealed the game in the second half.

Swallows scored their first win after winning promotion when they beat defending champions Glenville Celtic 2-1. Results: Saints 1 Westlake 2, Stardrifts 0 Blackpool 2, Rangers 1 Booysens Pride 2, Hotspurs v Park United (DNP), Bloom Callies 3 Helenvale 2, Glenville 1 Swallows 2, Ebenezer 1 Fairview Rovers 1, Wolves 4 Fairdene 1. STRUGGLING Camper United, who are just one place away from the bottom of the log, came close to causing the upset of the season when they held highly rated Gal City to a 1-1 in a Zwifa Ntando Tours Premier League fixture over the weekend.

Manchester City, just a place above Camper, scored a shock 4-3 win over Shinning Stars, who now sit at fourth on the log.

In a top-of-the-table clash Kuyasa United beat Sophakama 3-1, which means the latter drop three places to eighth.
