PE Defence go on massive attack with 8-1 victory against Academy

NEWLY promoted Toshiba Old Grey stumbled at the first hurdle when they lost 2-1 to Callies in a Pefa Premier League match at Londt Park on Friday evening.

The debutantes led 1-0 at the break through Adam Daniels.

In the second half, Razaan Safedien and Nkosinathi Ndamane ensured Callies recorded their second consecutiv­e win.

At the Westbourne Oval, NMB Municipali­ty thrashed Warriors 3-0 with goals by Nevan Gardner, Bhukhuthel­e Nquphe and Wayne Gilbert.

There was a flurry of goals on Saturday with PE Defence leading the onslaught in thrashing Motherwell Academy 8-1.

Defending champions Vodacom NMMU Madibaz got their campaign off with a 4-0 win over Highbury after leading 2-0 at the break.

Kieran Koert led the charge with a hat-trick. Claudius Ray Sagandira added the fourth. Hearts, who had a disappoint­ing season last year, got their season off on a positive note, beating KwaDdwesi All Stars 4-1.

Mark Upman (2), Jason van Wyk and Travis la Mude were on target for Hearts. Hlumelo Dumse scored the consolatio­n goal for Stars. On Sunday, Manchester United (11th) scored a shock 3-0 win over Morning Stars who are third.

The previous day United drew 2-2 with Gwala Stars who are fourth.

It was a disappoint­ing weekend for Gwala who drew 3-3 with Teenagers in their second match.

Brazil United (13th) had mixed fortunes.

They lost 3-0 to Young Aces, who are two places below them, and beat Walmer Stars – who were one place above them – 3-2.

African Aces moved to within two points of the log-leaders with max- imum points from their double-header.

They beat Mabayibone Strikers 2-0 and Walmer 3-0.
