Junior surf contest bigger and better

-

AFTER a successful event last year, the RVCA Junior Challenge will be back in Jeffreys Bay in about six weeks’ time, taking place from June 13 to 15.

Last year’s surfing contest saw three days of fun, waves and good times, and RVCA South Africa has promised that this year’s event will be bigger and better.

The competition will again be held at Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay and, at this early stage, it looks like it is going to be a busy three days, with all sorts of attractions, besides the surfing, to keep everyone interested.

The Spraymate Paint Jam will take place on the Saturday and will continue throughout the weekend, with Spraymate sponsoring hundreds of spraycans for children to use on the spraypaint wall.

Other exciting events planned for the weekend, include the Saturday night boerie braai, as well as the Red Bull Paddle Battle competition, where surfers will have to sprint-paddle up the point and run back along the beach.

“We’re so stoked to be bringing this event back for the children,” RVCA South Africa’s Chio Kraak said. “It’s always so much fun, and just to see them having a blast all day for three days is reason enough for us to have this event.”

The RVCA Junior Challenge is supported by Red Bull, Stance, Firewire, Futures Fins, Havaianas, Nixon, Rayne Cameras and Zigzag Magazine.

The Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay is an iconic surf location, and perfectly suited for the best junior surfers in the country.

The long and perfect right-handers are the ideal canvas for the young surfers to perform to the best of their abilities and impress the judges.

The age divisions for the event, are: boys under-10, U12, U14, U16 and U20, and girls U16 and U20.
