Successful Bartlett and club think about future

- Tshepang Mailwane

COACHING is not called a thankless job for nothing.

Shaun Bartlett may have won promotion with Golden Arrows after just one season in the National First Division (NFD), but his future with the club is uncertain.

And chairman Mato Madlala was not making any promises in her response to questions about the former Bafana Bafana striker’s future and readiness to coach in the big league. Bartlett, whose one-year contract expires in June, could join the likes of Vladislav Heric and Jacob Sakala who were pushed aside by their clubs after winning promotion. “Contracts are two-way things. “It depends on our negotiations,” Madlala said.

“I could say yes here and then when we negotiate we do not agree on some finer terms. And then you guys will start calling me a liar.

“Shaun and his technical team have done fantastically well because it’s always a team.

“It has been a difficult season and the team has worked hard.

“People do not understand how difficult that league is.

“We are going to sit and talk with the coach.”

For his part, Bartlett said he was ready to coach in the top flight.

“I have educated myself enough and the experience in the NFD has made me strong. I am ready. I am an ambitious coach and I want to win trophies.

“At this moment I am not sure about the future. I wanted to get the season over and now can meet with management . . .

“Just because I got the club promoted does not mean I will get a contract. It’s not automatic.

“I need to hear from management what their vision is for the next five years and if I am part of that vision.”
