MAIMANE ELECTED NEW DA LEADER

WHAT a leader! The only one to give Nelson Mandela a run for his money. Disciplined, high morals, a work horse and had more balls than the regime put together. Now DA, rid our once proud town of the corrupt, incompetent and racist SACP/ANC once and forever. Farewell Helen Zille!

TOM H

MMUSI Maimane, congratulation on being voted DA leader. You just made my Mother’s Day a happy day. Please look after us old people.

PENSIONER

I THINK the DA can make a change, first with crime. I was reading in the paper that people want soldiers to come to PE because crime is high, they say. Didn’t Helen Zille ask the ruling party and President Jacob Zuma for soldiers to fight Cape Flats gangsters? To stop crime in Cape Flats? Yes, she did ask several times, it just went to deaf ears! The ANC wanted people to blame Zille for the crime in the Western Cape. Now Zuma calls for soldiers to protect foreigners. I think the DA’s Mmusi Maimane and his team will make changes! Crime will be less! Mr Maimane, we will put God in front of you. Please keep your dignity and standards. We don’t want rude people like Julius Malema. I will vote for the DA for change.

CONGRATULATIONS to Mmusi Maimane, you are just what SA needs, my brother. All the best.

SAFM broadcast of the DA conference on Saturday: was the SABC trying to sabotage the broadcast of the DA conference? Or was it incompetent, unable to broadcast?

GOOD CARE AT PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL

THE Provincial Hospital has awesome doctors. The wards are a little shabby but clean. The food is good, and the nursing staff and doctors work under a huge workload. My husband had a detached retina (serious injury) fixed by Dr Jacoby – a wonderful doctor. Great aftercare too. Then he had cancer treatment in the “plastics” department. Dr Van der Walt did a sterling job – good aftercare. Yes, the queues are long. Just get there very early. Well done, all staff and Dr Marie van Antwerp.

COLUMN MAKES ME PROUD TO BE AFRICAN

MKHUSELI Jack’s column, In my View, yesterday makes me proud to be African, even though I’m not seen as an African!

SECURITY AT STADIUM INADEQUATE

CHIEFS v Chippa United: ineffective security. I don’t agree with stadium management. Don’t just employ guards, train them properly. SAPS also ineffective, seems your plans are only on paper. Do you actually rehearse plans? Why was the policeman’s pistol not attached to a pistol cable? Security totally outnumbered. Fans stormed the pitch twice and nobody foresaw that. Pull up your socks!

NOT SURPRISING HOUSES FALLING APART

RDP houses falling apart: no wonder. The ANC employs anyone with a wheelbarrow and spade and calls himself a builder.

DON’T FORGET FAITHFUL SELLERS

I HOPE in marking the 170-year milestone you will make mention of Square Deal at Mbizweni Square in New Brighton that was owned by the Bokholoena family. This is where we bought The Herald, Evening Post and Weekend Post from the ‘60s and I learnt English from these papers. Thanks to my grandfather, Joe Zinyusile Kondile, who sent us always to get him his daily copies.

STILL WAITING FOR REFUSE SITE TO RE-OPEN

IN the 33 months that we have waited for the Kragga Kamma Road refuse site to re-open, the private sector has built the R1.7-billion Baywest complex. Need I say more?

LITTLE REGARD FOR SAFETY OF ROAD USERS

WHAT might a municipality’s liability be should it be found that poor road markings contributed to an accident? NMBM displays a lack of interest with regard to the safety of our road users.

YOUTH HAVE NO PRINCIPLES

THE youth of today have no principles. They desecrate statues of people who depict the history of our country. The statues are also tourist attractions. Do the students not realise that UCT and Rhodes University might not have been if not for Cecil John Rhodes? Each statue tells a story. Today’s generation seems to have no idea what freedom means. A good definition is Abraham Lincoln’s speech on freedom which The Herald published some years ago!

SHADES OF ROBIN HOOD

“IN times of tyranny and injustice when the law oppresses the people, the outlaw takes his place in history” – from the movie Robin Hood. Shades of South Africa today.

ROMANO MARGON

NOW AN APPEAL TO PATRIOTISM IT had to happen. After Schaikgate, Nkandlagate and Guptagate (have I omitted any?), Jacob Zuma appears on TV and appeals to our patriotism. Has no one thought to inform him of Dr Johnson’s maxim on patriotism and scoundrels?
