Blues prince Frost to heat up Bay

‘ Frost is one of the most versatile and talented guitarists in SA

BLUES fans should clear Friday evening for a not-to-be- missed show combining the talents of the “Dark Prince of South African Blues” guitarist Albert Frost and drummer Kenan Tatt.

A familiar and respected feature of the South African blues rock music scene for the past 20 years, this will be Frost’s sixth appearance at the Music Kitchen.

Music Kitchen owner Mark Dorward says Frost is always very well-received by Port Elizabeth audiences, and that he is “my favourite South African musician”.

Music lovers can look for- ward to Frost deftly showcasing the five to seven guitars he will have with him.

Frost started playing the guitar in 1990 at the age of 13, and was voted best blues guitarist in South Africa by Stage Magazine in 2009.

While this fact in no way undermines his serious rock abilities, his first love is the blues.

This stems from the influence of his long relationship with the Blues Broers with whom he has performed since 1994 alongside his father, the legendary Frank D Frost.

The Blues Broers have recently been active again, releasing Out of the Blue in 2012 and Into the Red last year.

Frost has recorded with other South African music greats such as Arno Carstens, Koos Kombuis, Chris Chameleon and many others.

He has performed with every major artist in South Africa, and with international artists like Ali Faka Toure and Finley Quaye.

His international standing is evident in the fact that he has toured with Simple Minds and REM, and supported the Rolling Stones.

His enjoyment of the music he performs and his instruments as well as his charming rapport with the audience, keeps his admirers captivated and returning for more.

Music writer Murray Walker says: “Frost is one of the most versatile and talented guitarists in South Africa. Seeing him wield his myriad axes is a lesson in what is possible with a guitar. ”

Tickets are R120 at the door. Call (041) 364-1964 for more information.
