-

A GEORGE police officer is fighting for his life in hospital after he was shot during a police stop-and-search operation.

Constable Trevor Lindoor was shot in the chin on Thursday night while patrolling with another officer.

Police spokesman Captain Malcolm Pojie said Lindoor was patrolling in the Thembalethu township on the outskirts of the Garden Route town at about 11.20pm.

He said Lindoor approached a man wearing a hooded jersey. The suspect then fired his gun. The bullet hit Lindoor in the chin and went through his right upper arm.

The suspect fled the scene on foot while the other officer returned fire.

Pojie said the man was still at large. – Yolande Stander
