Must face ANC discipline

- Lawrence, ANC member, Port Elizabeth

IT’s so ironic to find that those who have been found embezzling state funds could get away with it so easily, to be redeployed to strategic government positions. This without going through internal discipline of our movement, like others who were summoned to appear before the upper structures of the movement.

Former Buffalo City metro mayor Zukiswa Ncitha had to resign due to the instability in BCM. There was also the case of misappropriating funds meant for the funeral arrangement of Madiba.

This sends a very negative image to our organisation and is contrary to Mangaung resolutions. These resolutions are very clear that those who have been accused of wrongdoings should step aside in the structures of the movement and allow the legal process to take its necessary course to its final conclusion.

The integrity committee was therefore agreed upon basically to deal with these corrupt tendencies, to uphold the image and the integrity of our organisation.

It’s not always convincing to suggest that people will remain innocent until proven guilty, when the damage has already been done in the name of the organisation. This on its own makes people commit these corrupt practices under this pretext of innocent until proven guilt.

The ANC should be consistent and decisive when dealing with ill-discipline of its members irrespective of the position they hold if it is to remain relevant to its supporters and members.

A case is to be made about the former Nelson Mandela mayoral committee member who went to China allegedly in the name of the then mayor Oom Ben Fihla and allegedly signed private business deals on behalf of our metro.

He then accounted for his business trips as being private even though he made use of the metro name. He then divulged that some of his alleged accomplices, including former deputy mayor Chippa Ngcolomba, allegedly financially benefitted from China.

Nothing was done to Ngcolomba. Instead he was redeployed.

What are the findings of investigations into his alleged involvement in the China scandal? What financial benefit did he allegedly receive? Why is he being redeployed without a full report?

We as members of the organisation are still battling to get answers on these important matters. We really want to see justice and get full disclosure of what happened in China.
