NO GOLDEN HANDSHAKES

SUSPENDING municipal officials on full pay (“More officials in hot water”, September 8) is just another way of keeping incompetents on the gravy train. Fire them with immediate effect and no golden handshake!

RATEPAYER

PLEASE no golden handshakes!

CHARLES PEOPLE are outraged by the alleged municipal thieves and you suggest golden handshakes. These officials must be prosecuted and sent to jail if guilty.

KEN

SO more officials of the municipality are being investigated. How many will get golden handshakes instead of being fired?

LIGHTS STILL NOT FIXED

DANNY Jordaan, what is being done about the quality of service to ratepayers? On May 28 we reported two lights out in our street (reference numbers available). In July we again called the helpdesk, to be told to contact the office of the artisans to whom instructions are sent. “My dear, we only have two persons available to cover the whole PE area” was the reply from a very kind, but obviously harassed person. Our lights are still non-functional. Can one honestly hope that with such lack of manpower that the city can be maintained in running order?

FIX WHAT’S WRONG

HOME Affairs is so busy creating new rules and regulations, but forgetting to fix what is wrong with existing system with delays and porous borders.

LIVE IN HOPE OF A KINGS WIN

LAST week’s debacle within the Kings, striking, no payment to players, elusive sponsorship and associated promises, no honesty or even disclosure as to why Luke Watson was omitted, etc makes it extremely difficult to support the Kings. There is just too much bull****. Not to mention we are unable to purchase replica Kings jerseys anywhere. (Please correct me if I am wrong). Then I read that the Kings coach talks about the Kings’ “plucky showing” against the Lions (“Kings hold their own against Lions”, September 7). For goodness sake, this was a Lions B team. Get real, Brent Janse van Rensburg! I will be at the stadium on Friday watching the Kings-Cheetahs match hoping for that elusive first win. Doubt it will happen, but like the “sponsorship”, I live in hope.

GORDON UPTON WELL done to the EP Kings young players. You are improving with each match. Up your game a lot more and start winning. Congrats to the U19 side on winning all your games. Keep it up.

ACCOUNTABILITY NEEDED

STOP ‘HERDED’ HUNTS

“WHY ANC lost Ward 30 poll” ( September 9): I don’t approve of the strategy of political parties dishing out food parcels and slaughtering cows to get people’s votes. That is blasphemous and unsustainable. Our ANC should develop strategies of monitoring so that councillors are accountable to the constituencies on an ongoing basis. For us to realise the ideals of Oom Gov Mbeki and Oom Ray Mhlaba, let the ANC get rid of lazy and self-serving councillors.

AUBREY NGENI, MOTHERWELL, PORT ELIZABETH

WE demand that driven hunts be totally banned immediately (“Scores of animals herded past hunters”, September 8) and deport those cruel hunters who are shooting the animals out of our country.
