King Jace for winning PE debut

-

DON’T write off Port Elizabeth debutant King Jace in tomorrow’s main event at Fairview, the Founders Trophy over 1 600m on the Polytrack.

Once again there is a carryover Pick 6 at Fairview tomorrow with R100 000 being added to the pool, which is estimated to reach R750 000.

Formerly trained by Garth Puller in KwaZulu-Natal, King Jace is now in the care of Jacques Strydom and on current form looks ready to record his fifth career win.

There are times when a horse needs a run in his new surroundings, but if the son of King Of Kings is in the mood he should be hard to beat.

In his last two starts – one at Scottsville and the other on the Greyville Polytrack – King Jace finished third behind Dynastic and third behind Stormy Eclipse respectively. Tomorrow Anthony Andrews will be in the irons and will be out to improve on the last two runs when King Jace was ridden by Donovan Dillon and Ian Sturgeon respectively.

Black Toga, from the Tara Laing yard, is a big danger. The son of Black Minnaloushe is better than his disappointing last run and must have a massive chance with Raymond Danielson up for owners Ingrid and Markus Jooste.

Black Toga is 4,5kg better off this time and must be included in all exotics.

However, the race is wide open. And if King Jace and Black Toga disappoint, the winner could come from Gogetthesheriff, Russian Mig, Lockheed Jerstar, Samhaan and Symbolik.

On their day any of the runners could secure the winner’s cheque of R62 500.

Gogetthesheriff flew up to beat horse of the year Sir Duke last time and has to be respected.

Lockheed Jetstar, formerly with the Geoff Woodruff stable, needed his last run and could be out to make amends with Wayne Agrella up.

The first race is off at 1315 with a Maiden Plate for all maidens over 1 300m in which 13 runners will face the starter.
