Secret to getting ‘waisted’ like the Kardashians

WHEN reality television sensation Kim Kardashian revealed the secret to her slim waist after trying to break the internet with a nude photograph on a magazine cover last year, curvaceous women around the world flocked to get their hands on this seemingly new yet actually quite old phenomenon.

The Kardashian beauty, who has an hour-glass figure and bootylicious behind, revealed that the secret to her slim waist was a contraption called a “waist trainer’’ or – as it has been known as since the 1600s – a corset.

Today’s waist trainers are corsets that cinch the waist, hips and back. According to Waist Trainer SA they are meant to be worn for four and six hours every day, moulding the body to a slimmer figure. The waist training practice has been around since Victorian times but this year made a comeback as the Kardashians – one of the most famous families in the world – have been posting images of themselves in the item on Instagram.

Between them Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie have a combined following of more than 184 million followers, which makes the family extremely influential social media icons. Their followers, in turn, have tried waist-training and sales of Waist Trainer SA have soared high with the trend spreading to South Africa.

Khloe Kardashian has always had body issues, being the biggest sister, and joked in an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians that “it’s said that I have to wait for you guys to be pregnant for me to be the skinny one”.

“I’m obsessed with the gym but a little extra help never hurt nobody . . . Once you try it, you’ll become obsessed,” the only blonde Kardashian said of her waist training routine.

Mother of three and the eldest of the sisters, Kourtney, also endorsed the technique, raving on about how she loved multi-tasking while wearing it – working on her posture while cleaning her closet.

PreMadonna, founder of Waist Gang Society, said it was a unique and efficient way to help women shed unwanted inches and feel good about themselves – “no diet and exercise required” and that waist training gave women the inner confidence they might have lost with gaining weight.

“It all starts with their mind. It makes women feel comfortable because I remember a day and age when we were embarrassed for a man to even know we had on undergarments.

“We wanted to keep that a secret, but now it’s a fierceness,” PreMadonna said.
