Costly jet yet another nail in new SA’s coffin

-

JAMIE Uys’s movie of years ago, The Gods Must be Crazy, keeps on popping up in my mind. Surely the gods of reason at government level are on a permanent vacation.

Even to consider buying an aircraft costing billions for the elite is way beyond comprehension. Even if it’s just talk, the idea is preposterous, to say the least.

Remember what Chris Hani said: “What I fear is that the liberators emerge as elitists, who drive around in Mercedes Benzes and use the resources of this country to live in palaces and to gather riches.”

The idea that our government is blind to the needs of the people is an indictment that will come back to haunt them. Where is the justice or the morality in making these absurd decisions?

It can only be done by people so far removed from reality that it borders on insanity. What else can it be?

Insane people trying to convince the poor sane masses that they are large and in charge.

But it will bite them one way or the other – just remember the unsinkable Titanic sank.

No money for hospitals and schools, but there is a need to fly in style. What happened to lead by example? The only example I see is more billionaires and millionaires among the elite driving slick Mercs like Hani predicted.

What a shame that these people died in vain. This is not the new South Africa they envisaged.
