Brighter days ahead for creche

PUPILS at Sinethemba Creche in Walmer township were delighted yesterday when they received a new classroom in the form of a brightly decorated container.

The container was sponsored by Fischer Housing, which through the help of Ambiton Financial Services, was able to lobby various Port Elizabeth businesses to contribute what they could. The creche caters for 20 pupils. Sinethemba’s founder, Gladys Vubela, 50, was ecstatic about the new, spacious classroom.

“I am so happy because there was not enough space in the shack we were using.

“Having to cook and teach the children in the same room did not sit well with me, because it was just not right,” she said.

Vubela said she would be “forever grateful” to Ambiton Financial Services for their assistance.

The refurbished container, which cost R70 000, has rainbow-coloured curtains and cupboards, as well as educational posters to make learning easier.

The school was also sponsored with another container that has been turned into a kitchen, with built-in cupboards and a gas stove.

Fischer Housing chief executive officer Heinz Fischer, 76, said he hoped that by providing a better learning environment for the pupils, their lives would change for the better. “The feeling I have right now is magnificent. “We hope that we can contribute towards a better future for these children,” he said.

Ambiton Financial Services marketing manager Lelanie de Vries said: “We realised that children need more than sweets and toy cars but rather something more tangible and so we facilitated the sponsorships.

“The community really opened up their hearts and pockets towards this project.”

An excited six-year-old Zukhanye Saki said: “I like this classroom better, it has space and nice colours.”
