EFF pledges clinics, libraries if it wins

CLINICS, libraries and sports centres were among some big promises the EFF made to the community of Langa and the surrounding areas in Uitenhage yesterday, should it win Ward 50 in the upcoming municipal elections.

Addressing a group of about 50 people, including residents and regional EFF officials, at the Xaba Hall in Langa, EFF regional deputy secretary and candidate councillor Bo Madwara said his party was ready to fight for the people.

“There is a war coming. A war of the people. When you vote for EFF, you vote for a party that will fight for you,” Madwara said.

Wearing a red EFF-branded beret, Madwara discussed a number of issues raised in the EFF’s manifesto specifically aimed at Ward 50, including shortcomings in service delivery, job opportunities and community facilities.

He outlined plans to build a business centre, providing entrepreneurs with a space to make a living, and convincing foreign shop owners to enter into partnerships with fresh produce vendors to sell fruit and vegetables at their shops.

Sport centres, to host local community tournaments and identify undiscovered talent, as well as libraries, with internet access and up- to-date books, would also be a top priority.

“Healthcare must also be addressed. The EFF believes in a simple motto – one ward, one clinic,” Madwara said.

He said that when large construction projects took place in the area, larger businesses should enter into joint ventures with local artisans and businessman.

“Their should be no sub-contracting. Smaller enterprises should form an integral part of the entire project. We don’t just want sub-contracting and exploitation of resident labour.

“We want direct involvement. We want joint ventures.”

He also said it was time for EFF president Julius Malema to take over leadership of South Africa as President Jacob Zuma had dropped the baton that was handed down to him by leaders like Nelson Mandela.
