Still chance for Highbury to close gap
HIGHBURY could close the gap on the two front-runners in the Safa-NMB women’s league this weekend.
The Bridgemead outfit trail log-leaders Continental by 17 points, but have five matches in hand. They have a difficult match against Kubs today and Vuku Wanderers tomorrow.
With a match against joint tail-enders Eleven Attackers on Sunday, Continental will back their chances of retaining top spot. Attackers have been conceding on average of nearly six goals a match.
African Chiefs, who are nine points behind Continental with two matches in hand, play struggling PE United on Sunday.
NMMU Madibaz will hope to keep their slender hopes of overhauling the three frontrunners when they host Nobuhle Ladies tomorrow.
The fixtures are: Tonight: Kubs v Highbury (TBA) Tomorrow: Hearts v Bodene Shatterprufe (Lawson Brown), Vuku Wanderers v Highbury (Stinging Bees), Warriors v Young Aces (Dower), NMMU Madibaz v Nobuhle Ladies (Second Avenue), Kubs v PE United (Stinging Bees), Zwide All Stars v Eleven Attackers (Zwide Stadium) Sunday: Young Aces v Hearts (Veeplaas), African Chiefs v PE United (Jubilee), Continental v Eleven Attackers (Wolfson Stadium), Bodene Shatterprufe v Zwide All Stars (Dower)
WITH the Pefa SCORE Premier League cup safely in their cabinet, only pride will be at stake this evening when Callies host arch-rivals NMMU Madibaz at Londt Park.
Last season the students pipped Callies to the title after making up a 17-goal deficit in their penultimate match against Forresters.
Central Acemates, who were the only team who could have pushed Callies all the way to the finish line until they lost last week, play Hearts at Victoria Park tomorrow in a battle for second spot.
With a one-point lead, Acemates need just a draw to stay ahead of Hearts.
The fixtures are: Tonight: Callies v NMMU Madibaz (Londt Park) Tomorrow: Leeds v St George’s (Westbourne Oval), Priory Shamrocks v Forresters (Priory), Central Acemates v Hearts (VP)
