Change on its way in the Bay

- Granny, 86, Sunridge Park, Port Elizabeth

DEAR Mr Mayor,

It is with joyful thanksgiving that we welcome you, Athol Trollip and all your chosen councillors, as our new mayor and government of Nelson Mandela Bay.

For so long, and especially before the elections, many, many South Africans have been meeting in prayer, all over the country. We in Port Elizabeth became part of the group in the city, “Battle for the Bay” – each week we would receive suggestions for prayer, so that eventually every aspect of life in our beloved country was covered.

We praise and thank God for the many faithful prayer warriors over this period and we have seen the results. We give him all the praise and all the glory.

The prayers continue, but now it is for “Arise and Build” – so very appropriate for us all. We have won the victory, so far, and now there is much work to be done.

We understand this and we also pray that our people will be patient. Things are not going to come right overnight. As we need you to bring change about, so you need us, your people, to support and uphold you in all things.

We truly believe change is coming and seeing your councillors that you have chosen, we have hope! Since the elections, there seems to be a brighter spirit in our city and that brightness is hope, that things can and will change, but in time.

So, Mr Mayor and all the councillors, including the opposition, we wish you Godspeed. May you be given the inspiration, courage, wisdom and sheer guts to get the work done – we are rooting for you all and together we will reap the rewards.

With all good wishes for the unfolding of that beautiful rainbow nation, which our beloved Madiba so envisaged for all of us. What a day that is going to be!
