RUBBISH COLLECTION STAFF ON STRIKE

ANOTHER cleansing department strike! So far this year we appear to have lost about 11 refuse collection days. Will NMBM please credit our accounts for three months and claim this amount from the strikers? It’s not fair for residents to pay for this service, then have to remove our own refuse. Enough is enough!

MIKE, GLEN HURD, PORT ELIZABETH

MY rubbish hasn’t been collected because of people who do exactly the opposite to their job description. DA, this section should be privatised.

NAT F

THE waste department strike mirrors the communist attempts to destabilise the UK government in the ‘70s. With the SACP being part of the so-called tripartite alliance SA is doomed until the electorate finally vote in a modern day Margaret Thatcher.

NOTICE SPARKS RACE ROW

HOW do you create a racist incident (“Toilet notice sparks race row”, September 15)? Put up a racist notice, get a gullible reporter and an even more gullible The Herald editor to put the story on the front page. Easy!

ECKART

SO sad that the ANC can’t accept its loss of the Bay. Stooping so low [allegedly] to fuel people’s anger towards the DA is pathetic. So glad the metro is out of its clutches. Viva DA. Athol Trollip, we are behind you. Show the ANC how an honest party will bring about change in the Bay.

JAY

WHOEVER put the notice up at Kuyga is obviously uneducated. Just check the spelling. Why do people always cause racial tension?

READER

THE Herald has really become the village crier. Front page story that finds a councillor guilty of racism with regard to toilet signs. Such a weak story which smacks of a setup. The spelling of “toilet” on the sign says it all. Is it your newspaper’s strategy to further racial hatred? What is your hidden agenda?

G BOTHA

ANYONE with an ounce of brain will see that the notice was written by an illiterate person, eg spelling, grammar and layout.

PATTY

HOW can a stupid racial poster in Kuyga be the sign of taking this country back to apartheid? The sign was surely written by one of the ANC people and those people are making an idiotic noise about it. This clearly shows the ANC has no interest in this country. Shame on them.

KEEP PROMISES MADE TO INSTALL WI-FI

PROMISES made. Now is the time for the DA to install our Wi-Fi as promised. Our two high schools in KwaDwesi will benefit from that.

ACADEMIC RESEARCH QUESTIONED

I NEED to question Professor Nadine Strydom’s research in “Shark attack waiting to happen” (September 15). The late legendary shark angler and dear friend, Pots and Pans le Roux, caught plenty of great whites off the harbour wall in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s, where the species was abundant and where plenty still abound. This was a stone’s throw from Kings Beach. I now ask the learned prof to tell us how many shark attacks there have been off this beach in the last 100 years?

TEENS HELD FOR MURDER

THE parents of the children who [allegedly] killed Magda van Vuuren are as guilty as they are!

READER

WHEN you commit an adult crime why should you be tried in a juvenile court?

PLEASED A SUSPECT HAS BEEN ARRESTED

SO pleased to learn that someone has been arrested following the threatening calls received by council member Dean Biddulph (“Relief for councillor as threat suspect arrested”, September 16). No need for this intimidation!

MUCH FOR BOKS TO IMPROVE ON

I WAS taught that the ball’s gold and you must deposit the ball behind the tryline where the money box is. You fight for the ball with all your might, then you don’t kick the ball away! The wing hardly ever gets the ball. If you have got to kick, kick the ball out. At least you get a bit of a breather. The Boks are good in the line. Play in the opposition’s ground. The scrumhalf takes too long and is too slow to pass the ball. The opposition can read his mind. Quick thinking, that’s what it’s all about.

NO REPLY FROM TELKOM LINE

TRIED to contact Telkom on its fault reporting number for two hours on Wednesday night, only to get a message each time. No reply from this number. What is going on there? Ridiculous.

80% FOR THE PROF’S TEST

PROF’S test (“How well educated are you?”, September 15): I got 80% right. Never heard of Guinea Bissau so chose Cote d’Ivoire. Chose Qunu because I knew Nelson Mandela was not born in any of the other places given. Not a fair question! I just love reading Jonathan Jansen’s articles. They are so sound.
