Music, penguin walk on Heritage Day programme

NELSON Mandela Bay residents are spoilt for choice this Heritage Day weekend.

Highlights include Inkulu-FreeHeid presenting its second annual Fruits of Democracy awards evening at the Atheneum in Central tonight.

It will feature Port Elizabeth artists Poetic Soul, Blaq Tye and Umle, together with a panel discussion on the subject, “Speaking my truth. Owning my awesome. Living my heritage.”

Another highlight is Intense Events hosting the first Valley Vibes concert at Settlers Park tomorrow.

It will feature artists like Ben du Toit, Big Man and Bear, Nique and The Cotton Fields.

In collaborat­ion with Above and Beyond Production­s, organisers are encouragin­g families to bring picnic blankets. Life-size games will be available as well as food stalls and craft beers.

National reading project Nal’ibali is the beneficiar­y of a high-tea hosted by Varsity College at the Radisson Blu Hotel tomorrow.

The event includes food and entertainm­ent by Indian dancer Aarti Narotam and the Woodridge Steel Band.

Tickets are R150 each and all funds raised will be donated towards the Nal’ibali Reading for Enjoyment campaign. For inquiries contact A’Neil Philander on (041) 363-4223.

Meanwhile, the Cape Recife Springfest taking place tomorrow has an artisanal market where craft goods and food will be on sale.

It will also feature a penguin plod at Samrec and a 5km run at 9am, starting and finishing next to Pine Lodge.
