PROTESTERS CLOSE DOWN UNIVERSITIES

SHAME on the leadership at NMMU. How do you allow the minority to take education from the majority? How are you going to compensate those who followed your rules and paid? How can your senior employee (vice-nothing) support a view that is contrary to that of her employer? She surely cannot come from the sciences, economics or business fields. Is it true that the protesters got free lunch? The mind boggles. No wonder our country is so far down the productivity ladder, it stems from the example set by institutions like NMMU. And soon NMMU will be asking why local industry does not support it. DISGUSTED

WHAT about the parents who pay? It is their kids’ constitutional right to have education without fear of intimidation. A GERBER

PHOTO of student holding placard saying, “All we want is to be free” (“Protesting students shut down NMMU”, September 21): my dear, you are part of the born-free generation. You are free. I think what you possibly mean is “All we want is for everything to be free”. OLDER AND WISER GENERATION (

FREE education: they are supposed to be the brains of the future, but they don’t even have common sense! Lord help us. READER

ALL thanks to the staff and students who retaliated against the protesters on US campus. You make us proud. It is only you and your parents who will save your education against the thugs stealing your future. The government might throw some money at the problem, but then the reasons for this thuggery will just change again. These thugs must not be the professionals of tomorrow. DEON

HANDOUTS are not sustainable. No handouts! No such thing as free education. Get real! EDUCATOR

LET US WATER DURING LIMITED HOURS

WATER restrictions: years ago when PE experienced a water crisis, residences with even numbers were allowed to use a hose between 6am and 10am on Mondays and Thursdays, with uneven numbers Tuesdays and Fridays. It is extremely difficult for the elderly to carry buckets of water to keep their little gardens alive. Please Mr Trollip, will you help us? PJC

WHY HAVEN’T BAGS BEEN PICKED UP?

SO the municipal strike is over. Why are the rubbish bags still lying on the pavement? RB

PROTEST AT COLLEGIATE

HOW sad that pupils who chose to attend CGHS for the high standards it maintains now want to trash it. Why should the school change its rules to placate a few? As for the sports teams, surely they should be chosen on merit, not race quotas! If you don’t like what the school provides, you can always leave and find one that suits you better! PRO CGHS

I LIVE in the northern areas. If I could have afforded to attend Collegiate, I wouldn’t have changed policies to suit anyone. RESIDENT

COLLEGIATE parents, consider this: if your child is not selected for a team, perhaps she is unathletic. REALIST
