High heels out of step at launch

High heels out of step at launch

-

SEPTEMBER is wine auction time in the Cape and Skinner’s spy on the scene reports our Eastern Cape buyers were out in full force at the glamorous, two-day event last Friday and Saturday.

SPAR Eastern Cape crowd were quite serious about the business of bidding, but let their hair down at the main auction lunch on the Saturday, where marketing director Abri Swart splashed out a cool R45 000 on the charity auction.

Glitzy Bay couple Peter and Candice Pitsiladi turned many heads on the Saturday.

Beautifully toned and tanned Candice wore a deceptively demure black-and-white spotted dress by PE designer Jason Kieck, subtly showing off her impossibly long legs.

Back in the Bay, your Skinnerbek attended the launch of the Algoa Big Walk for Cancer on the Algoa FM deck area last Friday.

The dress code was cocktail dress with running shoes. How refreshing was that – a fun twist for those of us who really don’t enjoy suffering in heels!

It must be said many women do need an “L” sign pasted on the back of their heels – if you can’t walk tall with confidence, don’t do it! Imagine my surprise, however when I arrived at the launch only to spot several gals . . . IN THEIR HEELS!

I later found out these were representatives from the department of health.

They were among the sponsors so how could they ignore the event’s dress code in this way? Just pointless.

Another thing that made my jaw drop was seeing the Bay TV crew rushing in an hour late like headless chickens.

And to think they too are among the sponsors.

The music at the event was super and people were in good spirits. The drinks flowed freely and I liked the set-up of white cocktail chairs and couches.

Seki Mandaba was her usual bubbly self and it was fun seeing Dean Biddulph in running shoes for a change!

I ended my Skinner business for the week with the media launch of Shark Tank SA in Durban on Wednesday. This new TV show will air on M-Net from next Sunday October 2.

The launch took place at uShaka Marine World and guests were driven there in luxury cars.

SA presenter and actor Jason Greer was the emcee and biz moguls like Romeo Khumalo, Vinny Lingham, Dawn Nathan Jones, Marnus Broodryk and Gill Oved (who got married just over a week ago ) will be the “Sharks” to whom wannabe entrepreneurs will pitch their business ideas. They all came driving different Porsches.

Unfortunately, there was no network access and one would think, having Telkom as a sponsor, they could have made some arrangements.

All the guests had a blast – I even forgot there were shark tanks around us.

Heritage weekend beckons, so let’s get ready to have some fun!
