Madibaz cruise home to beat Old Grey by six wickets

MECER Madibaz 1 continued their dominance of EP club cricket when they added another trophy to their cabinet by beating Seaman’s Renault Old Grey by six wickets in the T20 Mayoral Cup final at St George’s Park.

The students were always going to be favourites going into the match and it needed something special from Old Grey to beat them.

But they never made enough runs batting first and the Madibaz cruised home with 12 balls to spare.

Michael Hansel (50) was the mainstay in the Old Grey innings of 98 all out. His fine half century came off only 30 balls and included four fours and three sixes.

Brad Haller, Stefan Tait and Odwa Xonxa took two wickets each.

The Madibaz suffered the early loss of Anru Emiljo for nought in their first over, but solid innings from Vian Maritz (24) and Lloyd Brown (36no) ensured the students got home without much further drama.

Seamer Daryn Korkie was the most successful of the Old Grey bowlers taking 2/32. The weekend’s results were:
