- – Gareth Wilson

THE charred remains of a man, 22, were found in Madasi Street, New Brighton, early yesterday.

According to police, the man, Mpumzi Mxoli, was killed in a suspected vigilante mob justice attack.

Police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said Mxoli was killed sometime during the night and set alight.

“Detectives are investigating a case of murder linked to a vigilante-style attack.

“The body was found at about 7.30am and police were alerted,” he said.

He said partially burnt tyres had been found near the body.

Beetge said Mxoli was accused by residents of the brutal attempted robbery of a New Brighton woman last week.

A case of murder is under investigation.
