Grey players in top squash form

-

WYNBERG Boys’ High hosted their 10th annual Stayers Squash Festival, which is an event designed to blood the first teams for the new year.

Teams from as far as Pretoria, Bloemfontein and KwaZulu-Natal converged on Cape Town in preparation for the upcoming season.

Grey High played St Andrew’s Bloemfontein, Michaelhouse, hosts Wynberg and SACS over Friday and Saturday and enjoyed four convincing wins

Grey opened the festival with two wins over St Andrew’s and Michaelhouse, dropping just one match in each encounter

Grey’s 6-0 win against Wynberg was anything but easy and Murray Schepers’ match against Nathan van der Westhuizen provided the match of the weekend for parents and supporters at the Bill Bowden Pavilion.

Schepers recovered from 2-0 down to level the match at 2-2, neutralising Van der Westhuizen’s dominance of the centre of the court with subtle changes of pace, demonstrating a superb tactical maturity to run out the 3-2 winner.

In the afternoon game, the Grey team, the current holders of the top schools trophy, proved to be too strong for Sacs with a comfortable 6-0 win.
