Cream of province’s cyclists win awards
ANRIETTE Schoeman and Mandy Turpin Akom were honoured by Eastern Cape Cycling with the top road and track cycling awards in the province.
Schoeman, of the Africa Silks Bestmed team, was named Eastern Cape road cyclist of the year, while Akom took the award as Eastern Cape track cyclist of the year.
Reinard Zellhuber, of Eastern Wheelers in East London, received the Eastern Cape mountainbike cyclist of the year award.
Schoeman achieved numerous national classic wins this year, topped with a gold medal for South Africa in the time trial at the Elite Continental Africa Championships in Morocco.
She also represented the Elite national team at the World Championships in Qatar.
Akom received the track cyclist award after representing the women’s team at the Vets world championships.
She also excelled at the national track championships.
Jessica Brown received her Eastern Cape junior colours for winning national titles in track cycling and representing the national junior team at the track world championships.
Anja Gerber received her Eastern Cape colours for representing the national junior team this year in Europe.
