Bathurst ready to go with Country Affair
NEXT weekend’s Bathurst Country Affair (BCA) is always a good reason to head out to this picturesque Eastern Cape village.
The annual country fair takes place next Saturday November 5 from 9am until late and will be held over one day instead of all weekend this time.
According to BCA convener Tanya Schenk the festival of food, wine and song is again expected to deliver fun for all ages.
“As always, the focus is on outstanding food and culinary-related experiences. Wine tastings at The Pig and Whistle as well as at the Wiles Gallery will be on the programme,” she said.
“Another new experience will be a tea tasting at Morley House.”
Restaurants and pubs in the village will be serving breakfast, lunches and dinners, and festival goers are urged to book in advance to avoid disappointment.
“Don’t forget The Pink Lady for amazing milkshakes,” Schenk said.
There will be live music at the various pubs and, on a more cultural note, the renowned Pro Carmine Choir will also be in town.
This Grahamstown choir will perform in Bathurst’s St John’s Church, the oldest in South Africa, at 2.30pm.
“Their performance was packed out last year,” Schenk said. “This is a real treat for visitors and not to be missed.”
Wine tastings, deli foods, pop-up restaurants and quirky events will again be part of the programme.
“We’ll have everything that ensures you will leave the Bathurst Country Affair with a full tummy and a big smile on your face.”
The area’s famous pineapple throwing competition, along the waitron race, is always great fun, though it is best to book your participation in advance.
Vintage tractors, classic cars and alpacas are among the attractions.
“And don’t forget the bokdrol spitting competition at the Fig and Daisy,” Schenk said.
“When you get to the village the first thing to do is get a programme and map at the info office at the shop next to the Pig,” she said.
