THE Hello Summer Uitenhage Music Festival is bringing some of the country’s hottest acts to Uitenhage from tomorrow at the first annual event.

Guaranteed to get party lovers jumping for joy at Jabavu Stadium in KwaNobuhle, national artists such as the SuperMega himself AKA, Jaziel Brothers and The Soil will be taking centre stage at the two-day festival aimed at giving local artists a platform to highlight their skills and “bringing talent to the people”.

Local acts include Black Tye, DJ Lemak, Honest, Luco Se, Mr Douw, DJ Cute and many more. Stage Elements director and the festival organiser, Uitenhage’s Thando Kanti, said he had partnered with the Department of Arts and Culture nationally to bring what he hoped would be an annual festival to the people of Uitenhage. “The event itself is my brainchild and being from here, with a background in music, I thought of bringing festivities here and most importantly to try and bring some sort of jobs for local artists. As much as Uitenhage is a part of the metro, I felt not much was happening for artists where they can get gigs,” Kanti said. He said events of this nature were not just about “having another party but instead, there are socio-economic benefits for technical suppliers, eventrelated suppliers, people on the ground, SMMEs and food vendors whom we aren’t charging for the space”.

Tonight’s programme will be dedicated to hip-hop with artists such as AKA and Eastern Cape Music Awards 2016 nominee Crown performing.

Tomorrow’s lineup will be more soulful, with performances by the likes of The Soil, Jaziel Brothers, and Uitenhage favourite DJ Cute.

There will be big screen TVs around the stadium for those who do not want to miss out on tomorrow’s Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates match. Security would be tight, Kanti said.

Today’s show starts from 6pm until late and tomorrow the gates open at noon. Tickets are at Computicket at R150 per person per day, and R450 for VIP.
