Bombers, Windvogel still without a win

THE Mayoral Cup rugby competition reaches its penultimate round of pool fixtures as teams look to cement their position in the playoff rounds next week.

For some teams, like African Bombers and Windvogel United, the writing is already on the wall as they have yet to win a game this season.

However, the Bombers will be given a shot at redeeming themselves by ending the season on a high note when they take on bitter New Brighton rivals Spring Rose in Zwide tomorrow.

The fixture will be an important one, especially for the Roses, who are looking to secure the second-place spot over Crusaders.

The Roses’ title hopes were dealt a large blow due to early losses against the Harlequins and the Gelvan Wallabies.

Meanwhile, African Bombers will be playing for bragging rights after losing their last encounter in the Grand Challenge.

In the curtainraiser, Harlequins will be looking to oust the Gelvan Wallabies for top spot when they take on Crusaders in what may be a fairly easy fixture for Quins.

However, they will not underrate their opposition after Saders proved more than capable of causing upsets after they downed African Bombers 15-10 last week in Gelvandale.

The Grand Challenge runnersup have suffered only one defeat, to Wallabies, and will be hoping they can secure pool A in division one.

Progress Rugby Club will take on Suburban in Kleinskool at 3.30pm, while Grand Challenge champions Gardens will lock horns with wildcards Star of Hope in the opener at 2pm.
