Our very own Bieber in the valley

-

HELLO my darlings. Doesn’t it bug you that there are never enough days in the weekend? Of course that should never stop Skinners from having a good one! Last Friday night, I supported the annual Herald GM Citizen of the Year Awards, where we saw some bright young stars in the youth category who will surely go on to lead this country into a great future.

In the main category there were also many leading lights who would put us all to shame when it comes to doing our bit for the community.

Everyone was dressed to the nines, some even putting on their Sunday best for the occasion at the PE Opera House.

I spotted the lovely Natasha and Selwyn Willis . . . seems like the missus is always ready to attend an event that will give her a reason to dress up.

Everyone applauded the NMMU Choir and people were clearly enchanted by their singing.

What a huge pity it was that they lost Varsity Sing recently. Your Skinnerbek thinks they deserved to take the top spot!

Meanwhile, over in KwaNobuhle at the Uitenhage Summer Music Festival, concert goers were left disappointed when rapper AKA opted not to perform because there were fewer than 300 people there.

Honestly, not sure if I blame him because people from Uitenhage always complain that nothing ever happens here. But then, when national artists are brought right to their doorstep, they fail to show up. Not cool, guys!

The Supermega did stick around to pose for pictures with people who were there though.

Saturday was no better for the music festival as there were barely 50 people at the Jabavu Stadium by 7pm, which prompted festival organiser Thando Kanti to grant free access to the concert.

On Sunday, yours truly went to the Valley Concert, where Matthew Mole gave a sterling performance at the Hopewell Conservation Estate.

One could not help but notice the place was jam-packed with teenage girls. I think South Africans may have just found their own Justin Bieber.

The girls were going mad over the dude and Skinner did feel a little old. But I don’t blame them since he sure is good looking!

Ciao until next time!
