Sharing tricks of triathlon trade

-

LEGEND Raynard Tissink and double Ironman champion Kyle Buckingham will lead a group of triathletes in sharing racing tips, nutrition skills and equipment tricks with the Bay’s triathlon community on Saturday.

The event, organised by three-time Ironman finisher Luvuyo Bangazi, is aimed at empowering Bay athletes ahead of start of the triathlon season.

Nelson Mandela Bay will play host to the first 5150 triathlon event on November 20.

The 5150 event is a member of the Ironman South Africa stable and seen by many as the official season starter ahead of next year’s half Ironman and Ironman events.

“It is important that Nelson Mandela Bay begins to build a strong culture of triathlon as a contribution to making the city the water sports capital of Africa,” Bangazi said.

“We are also blessed to have among us legends of the sport like Tissink, who has more that eight Ironman titles from around the world.

“The city is also home to Buckingham, a two-time Ironman champion in the US and former age group World Champion.

“Also in his second summer training camp in Nelson Mandela Bay is German pro Johannes Moldan.”

Moldan has made the Bay his second home, choosing to spend months in Port Elizabeth in preparation for his European triathlon season.

The event will take place at The Granary in Richmond Hill from 6pm.

Interested triathletes have been asked to arrive early, as seating is limited and on a firstcome-first-served basis.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the www.luvuyoracesforsmile.com charity campaign.
