Much at stake in Motherwell derby

- Vuyokazi Nkanjeni

IN this weekend’s round of fixtures in the ABC Motsepe League, the keenest rivalry will be in the Motherwell derby between Young Ideas and Subs.

Both clubs are in need of points and will be looking to the match as an opportunity to end their winless drought.

Subs have not won in seven of their eight matches played.

They have only one win in the bag, courtesy of Mdantsane Mighty Bucks during a season opener.

The team is placed 12th on the log with six points from eight matches, with one win and three draws.

In their previous game, Subs played to a 1-1 draw against FC Buffalo.

Meanwhile, after a top eight finish last season, Ideas see themselves fighting for survival this season.

The other Motherwell side is second from the bottom of the log with four points, which come from a won and one draw in six games.

Depending on other league results, a win for Ideas could help them move slightly away from the relegation zone.

Meanwhile, top Bay club Lion City play second-placed Future Tigers in a crucial top-of-the- log battle.

A win for the Motherwell side will not only extend their unbeaten run in the league but most importantly could move them to the top of the table, depending on how other teams perform.

City are sitting on fourth place on the log with 17 points from seven matches.

The team are level on points with Callies, but the Bay side are above due to a better goal difference.
