‘Border Drive’ presenter to quit Algoa FM

- Poliswa Plaatjie

AFTER 20 years as a presenter for Algoa FM, Gordon Graham is to leave the radio station.

The Border Drive presenter said he would be working as an announcer for sports events and operate as an independent contractor.

He would also be exploring opportunities in the voice-over artist arena.

The sports events include working on Ironman and other events throughout the country, the Middle East and Europe.

“Looking at my diary, I’m scheduled to commentate up to three sporting events a month, and it became clear that there was no way I could give Algoa FM the 100% focus the station deserves,” Graham said.

Making the decision has not been easy for the wellknown presenter.

“It was a difficult decision to make, as Algoa FM has been part of my life for a very long time and I have such a great relationship with the team,” he said.

Graham will make his exit at the end of March.

“In the next few months, before I say goodbye, I want to do my best to keep the show sounding good and make sure that my successor has a smooth transition into this amazing show,” he said.

Algoa FM operations director Alfie Jay said the station was proud of Graham.

“Gordon has, without a doubt, been one of the best radio voices I have ever had the privilege of coaching and he has grown tremendously as a business-savvy presenter since moving to East London,” Jay said. Graham said he would miss the radio team. “It’s been incredible. I think some that stand out are my first shows on Algoa FM presenting the show just before Alfie Jay’s show,” he said.

“He would come in early to help me and I would stay late talking about radio with him.

“There are so many to mention, but Algoa FM really is a family and everyone has been so good to me.”
