More victims of serial killer feared
A SERIAL killer who murdered four young men in Britain may have claimed many more victims.
The Metropolitan Police in London has launched an investigation into the missed opportunities in its handling of the case and will look into 58 other potential victims of drugfacilitated sex crimes.
Stephen Port, 41, a bus garage chef and male escort, used gay dating websites to lure men to his flat, where he spiked their drinks and raped them.
Relatives of the victims have criticised the police for a bungled investigation which could have saved lives.
Anthony Walgate, Gabriel Kovari, Daniel Whitworth and Jack Taylor were all found dead close to the east London home of Port in 2014 and last year.
The killer dumped their bodies in and around a graveyard in Abbey Green.
Port planted drugs and a fake suicide note in a bid to avoid the blame. Commander Stuart Cundy has confirmed that 17 officers are under investigation for misconduct over failures in catching the serial killer.
“The surviving victims were very brave giving evidence at trial, but the trauma will stick with them,” Cundy said.
“All I can say is from the evidence at trial, there were potential opportunities that were missed. The investigation will very carefully consider those.” – The Telegraph
