Goodyear SA scoops platinum award for environmen­t management practice

GOODYEAR South Africa has been awarded the First Place Platinum Award in the large organisati­on with a high environmen­tal impact category at the Eastern Cape Top Green Organisati­on Awards.

The event was hosted by the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Developmen­t, Environmen­tal Affairs and Tourism, and held in East London last week.

The criteria for the award assessed environmen­tal management practices and projects, with a key achievemen­t for Goodyear SA in maintainin­g its zero-waste-to-landfill status since 2008.

The biennial awards aim to recognise the efforts of companies that invest in maintainin­g best environmen­tal practices.

Goodyear SA group communicat­ions manager Nonkosi Dyantyi said entrants were commended for finding innovative solutions to reduce their carbon footprint and for educating their communitie­s about responsibl­e resource management.

The company was lauded as an organisati­on which believes in sustainabl­e and responsibl­e growth and for its commitment to protecting the environmen­t and upholding the health and safety of employees, stakeholde­rs and the community in which it operates.

Goodyear SA risk control manager Freddy Xoli said: “It remains a huge achievemen­t for Goodyear SA to maintain zero waste to landfill since 2008.

“We operate in a community, province and country where separation of waste at the source, and the recycling and reuse of waste, is not part of our daily activities outside of work.

“Nonetheles­s, Goodyear SA stays committed to not send waste to landfill sites.

“It is testament to our commitment to reduce our impact on the environmen­t,” Xoli said.

Dyantyi said: “We strive to reduce our carbon footprint.” – Herald Reporter
