Goodyear SA scoops platinum award for environment management practice
GOODYEAR South Africa has been awarded the First Place Platinum Award in the large organisation with a high environmental impact category at the Eastern Cape Top Green Organisation Awards.
The event was hosted by the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, and held in East London last week.
The criteria for the award assessed environmental management practices and projects, with a key achievement for Goodyear SA in maintaining its zero-waste-to-landfill status since 2008.
The biennial awards aim to recognise the efforts of companies that invest in maintaining best environmental practices.
Goodyear SA group communications manager Nonkosi Dyantyi said entrants were commended for finding innovative solutions to reduce their carbon footprint and for educating their communities about responsible resource management.
The company was lauded as an organisation which believes in sustainable and responsible growth and for its commitment to protecting the environment and upholding the health and safety of employees, stakeholders and the community in which it operates.
Goodyear SA risk control manager Freddy Xoli said: “It remains a huge achievement for Goodyear SA to maintain zero waste to landfill since 2008.
“We operate in a community, province and country where separation of waste at the source, and the recycling and reuse of waste, is not part of our daily activities outside of work.
“Nonetheless, Goodyear SA stays committed to not send waste to landfill sites.
“It is testament to our commitment to reduce our impact on the environment,” Xoli said.
Dyantyi said: “We strive to reduce our carbon footprint.” – Herald Reporter
