Scribante race kicks off 50k decider
THE final showdown of the Algoa Rally 50k Championship will be decided at the Heinesport Rally in the Uitenhage area today and tomorrow.
The rally starts tonight at 8pm at Aldo Scribante race-track and finishes at Jachtvlakte tomorrow afternoon, at about 4.30pm, followed by the prizegiving ceremony at Rangers Outdoor Game Lodge.
The Heinesport Rally will consist of night and day stages at the Scribante race circuit, Motherwell farms, Spiders Web and Jachtvlakte.
These stages will be repeated over two-days for the championship.
The championship will be closely contested by the leading team contenders of Johan and Jaune Viljoen, Rikus Schmidt and Sherilee Pieterse, who will be driving 1 600cc Polo rally cars. Spectators will have the opportunity to view the cars in action at Scribante Race Circuit tonight.
Total distance covered will be 180km and 25 rally cars are expected from Cape Town, Johannesburg and Bloemfontein. The 50k Championship, on tar and gravel roads, started in April with the first of seven events which have been held in Port Elizabeth, Uitenhage and Jeffrey’s Bay, including the recent Volkswagen National Rally.
The rally also took in the vicinity of the Baywest and Fountains Mall shopping centres.
Algoa Rally Club drivers compete for lucrative prizes at the end of the season which include a Volkswagen Polo rally car, racing suits and accessories.
Also up for grabs, are rally tyres supplied by ATS Automotive and a Cape Fabric Engineering-branded Gazebo.
The total value of the prizes is over R100 000.
Second and third prizes are R15 000 and R7 500 – with cash amounts for points scored to last place sponsored by Heinesport.
Entrance to all stages and service parks is free for spectators who want to follow the rally.
