Fans’ darling back but watch Razed In Black

- Punters’ Pal

THE action at the Fairview race track returns to the polytrack today, with the November Stakes over 1 400m topping the bill.

In this race the darling of the Fairview crowd, Gogetthesheriff, returns to the distance of his last two victories.

His last win was in August and things did not work out smoothly for him in his three starts since then.

It is a bit strange to see, but the best horse on the polytrack for the last two seasons will start the race as one of the outsiders today.

The November Stakes does have an open look to it, with Razed In Black the early favourite of the bookmakers.

Two interesting horses that had solid form in other provinces, Shadow Ofhis Smile and Peach Delight, will be making their Port Elizabeth debuts in this race.

It will probably be quieter today than last Friday, when Fairview played host to the first leg of the International Jockeys Challenge.

Fairview did a great job in hosting the event for the second-year running.

There were some top class rides from the big names, and also not so good rides. It was very competitive though and every jockey gave it his all.

It was the first time that I saw a jockey who did not ride a winner on the entire card being treated like a legend at Fairview.

That is because Frankie Dettori is a legend. The Italian is one of the best the game has seen – and it was quite remarkable to witness how he reacted to the demands of his many fans.

Dettori had his hands full with all the requests for photographs and to sign his name, but he made time to fit in everyone.

Georgies Corner, situated close to the parade ring, is becoming a popular place to enjoy the races from on Port Elizabeth’s big days.

This initiative of the Racing Association certainly gives race goers value for money and a chance to mingle with some of the trainers and owners.

Make sure you make some money today, because tomorrow is a big day at Turffontein in Johannesburg. The battle for the Summer Cup tops the bill.
