Double as United win cup and plate
JENDARMARK United completed a double, winning both the cup and plate events at the Gelvandale Cricket Club’s Vernon Malgas Double Wicket competition.
In the cup section, United were represented by Sivuyile Duda and Remano Esau, who were too strong for the Madibaz 1 pairing of Vian Maritz and Kyle Jacobs.
United batted first and scored 67, with Remano Esau starring with an aggressive 44.
Madibaz 1 could only manage 55 in reply, handing United a 12-run victory.
Esau earned the batsman of the tournament award for his prowess with the bat.
In the semifinals, United beat PECC to claim their berth in the final while Madibaz 1 saw off the challenge of Gelvandale 2.
Two NMB Premier League matches were also played on Saturday with SA Home Loans Union easily beating SuperSpar Despatch by 125 runs.
Half centuries from the experienced pairing of Riaan Venter and Trevor Young saw the home side to 213 for six.
Despatch could only manage 88 in reply with Ryno Hamilton taking an impressive six for 22 to rout the visitors.
At Mooredyke, EMediaIT Heatherbank saw off a challenge from newcomers Schauderville who batted first and scored only 101. Heatherbank reached their target with six wickets with Marlon Felix taking four for 25.
Yesterday, Gelvandale remained unbeaten thanks mainly to Brad Dolley, who took six wickets for eight runs as Old Grey were rolled for 115.
Dolley then added an unbeaten 27 with the bat to help his team home with 15 overs to spare.
