“Global autoglass manufacturer with deep roots in PE’’

-

Shatterprufe, a division of the PG Group, is a Port Elizabeth based automotive glass manufacturer, that has been established since 1935 and employs over 1200 people across their various sites. The landmark company has 3 manufacturing sites in South Africa, 2 in Port Elizabeth and 1 in Garankuwa. They also have an assembly facility in Durban and 6 distribution warehouses in the main metropolitan cities in South Africa.

They have a wide base of customers, from the local automotive OEMs such as VWSA, Ford, General Motors, Nissan and Toyota, to export customers in Europe, Brazil and Australia and also local Aftermarket customers, such as PG Glass and Glasfit. The bus, truck and rail sector is also supported through their manufacturing site in Neave Industrial, with glass being supplied to customers such as MAN, Marco Polo, Busmark and Gibela.

Shatterprufe manufactures more than 1.1 million windscreens and over 2.2 million door and back glasses per year between their 3 production facilities and carries a range of over 8000 different parts.

‘’We are a proudly South African company who manufactures quality automotive glass for our global customer base. Over 10 million vehicles globally are fitted with Shatterprufe product,” says Mike Ford, Sales and Marketing Director.

Investment in technology has been the key to Shatterprufe being awarded new contracts with OEMs and to align itself with the market trends towards new Advance Driver Assist Systems (ADAS). Going forward, ADAS systems, such as Autonomous Emergency Brake (AEB) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) , will be fitted in most vehicles. This complexity has driven Shatterprufe to invest in new machinery and assembly equipment, to ensure quality fitment of ADAS components.

A large portion of the materials and components used in the autoglass manufacturing process, are procured from local South African suppliers and the development of local suppliers is key to negate the effects of a volatile exchange rate.

Investment in people is the key to their success and many of the Team leaders, Supervisors and Managers have received external leadership training, to assist in their development. The goal is to develop leaders across all levels of the business who can then manage the customer expectations and key strategic objectives of the business.

In an effort to uplift the local community, Shatterprufe has undertaken to upgrade ablution and sanitation facilities at the Khwezi Lomso High School, which is situated near to the Struandale plant. Financial support is also given to the Missionvale Care Centre and the Khayalethu Youth Centre, to assist in uplifting the communities in their area.

With its investment in technology and people, Shatterprufe aims to continue its sustainable growth, long into the future!
