I SHARE your rugby sentiments, Realistic (“Weakness in player choices”, November 30). However let me point out three important facts: 1. Some 300 South Africans are playing in the top leagues all over the world (approximately 20 teams), 2. We cannot pick our best players and this starts from under-12 level and 3. The All Blacks steal 70% of their players from Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.

RUGBY FAN

TO Rory Riordan, now that you have written “DA bungles first 100 days in office” (December 5), please let me have “ANC bungles 22 years in office”.

B GUERRA RORY Riordan, the previous ANC-led municipality should be ashamed at what the current DA municipality has achieved in such a few months. Let us give the DA a chance over the next few years. I am sure it will achieve much more than the ANC did in Port Elizabeth since 1994.

SHAWSHANK

RORY Riordan, the DA might have bungled its first 100 days in office, but you seem conveniently to forget your ANC bungled the last 22 years in office.

RATEPAYER RORY Riordan should ride off into the sunset. The ANC wrecked the metro over 22 years and the DA is going to need more than 100 days to sort out the mess and good luck to them.

CATCH THE SCAM ARTIST

THE Plett scam thief must be caught and punished (“Outrage over Plett scam”, December 5). Indeed. I wonder what the desperately poor are thinking about these huge Rage expenses as they approach the festive season?

GRANNY HOW CAN BUYER BE HELD RESPONSIBLE? I FULLY agree with Judge Fourie’s ruling (“ANC, DA fight landmark debt ruling”, December 5)! How can a buyer be held responsible for a previous owner’s debt? It is totally unconstitutional and totally ridiculous!

ANOTHER RATEPAYER DESTRUCTIVE FANS NOT WELCOME IN CITY

TO Kaizer Chiefs fans, if unhappy, break something (“Angry Chiefs fans pelt coach Komphela with bottles”, December 5)! With that mentality, you and your team are not welcome in our city. RICHARD, CHARLO, PORT ELIZABETH CHURCHES FOUGHT APARTHEID JACOB Zuma says church leaders should stay out of politics (“Zuma blasts churches for meddling”, December 5). Really? So who do you think played a major role in bringing down the Nats?

DISGUSTING ABUSE OF PUBLIC FUNDS

HOW can the ANC and JZ justify hiring a private jet to fly to Cuba to Fidel Castro’s funeral? This is disgusting abuse of public funds.

WATER RESTRICTIONS

AS a plumber in this city we are forced by law to put geysers with a capacity of 100l of hot water per room in the new houses. Three rooms – 300l, four rooms – 400l and so on. In the last 60-plus years houses have had geysers with capacities of 100l or 150l and best of all nobody has died because of the lack of hot water. My point is the more hot water you have got the more is used. This is a fact, now do the maths. So stop and change the rules now before it is too late

PLUMBER

SAW a sprinkler on the lawn at a house in Linkside on Friday. I spoke to the gardener working there. He confirmed it was not borehole water. Please people, advise your staff of the water situation.

EYES OPEN MOST of us are aware of the ongoing gutter politics being used to discredit the ruling DA coalition by the irresponsible opposition in council, especially with regard to the critical water situation. It is therefore up to us to help get the truth across to our domestic help, fellow workers and staff, and set an example in our homes and workplaces that we are all affected. Maybe we can get an overdue answer where the millions allocated some to years back already for the Nooitgedacht scheme actually went? Brushed under the carpet like everything else?

GARRY STONE

AMERICA started a whole new industry and created thousands of jobs by recycling plastic into thousands of black plastic balls. These were then placed on the water surface of their dams and reservoirs, cutting sun and wind evaporation to zero and saving millions of litres of water annually. Surely we could do the same?
