LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL:

-

START getting excited because next year’s edition of The Herald Continental Cycle Tour will be bigger, better and more festive at the new race village at the popular Pollok Beach in Summerstrand.

The new and improved race village would be larger and more accessible for all riders and supporters, Herald chief marketing officer Justin Peel said.

“The enclosed area will feature something for everyone, including a tented family area, kiddies’ playground, popular food trucks, secure bike park for all riders, a beer tent for the thirsty, entertainment throughout the day and a brand new hospitality area for individuals and businesses,” Peel said.

For the riders’ convenience, the Radisson Blu Hotel across the road from the race village has been chosen as the preferred accommodation partner for next year.

The hotel is looking forward to welcoming all cyclists taking part in the upcoming The Herald Continental Cycle Tour.

Perfectly located opposite the start/finish line at the Pollok Beach lawn area, this internationally renowned 173-bedroom hotel perfectly balances its contemporary architecture and urban interiors with its spectacular Indian Ocean surroundings, offering an ideal stay for every kind of traveller.

Preferential accommodation rates are available to all participants, and the facilities include free unlimited high-speed Wi-Fi and an in-house fitness centre, available 24 hours.

Guests can also book a pre-/post-race massage at the Camelot Spa and enjoy the use of the steam room on a complimentary basis as an added value.

Delicious dining options are available at Tabu Restaurant during the race weekend, with a special carbo-loading buffet on offer.

“It is a great honour to be associated with one of Port Elizabeth’s most prestigious sporting events, especially being an international brand welcoming travellers from out of town locally and abroad,” sales and marketing director Michelle Muller said.

“Serving and taking care of guests is our core business. This is achieved by adhering to international standards to ensure that we create memorable moments.

“Cyclists are also able to download the Radisson One Touch App, for any requests they might have prior to or during their stay, to ensure all guests are as comfortable as possible,” she said.

Team Giant manager Hannes van der Walt said his group of seven riders were very excited to be staying at the Radisson Blu during the race weekend.

“It is our first choice for accommodation. Being right by the beach is always a bonus. It is classy and stylish and conveniently close to the start of our race.

“Staying in great accommodation like the Radisson will help the team immensely. We’ll get good rest, good food and good ambiance. Well-rested and happy cyclists perform at their best,” he said.

“The team’s morale will be high staying [there].”
