CRACK DOWN AT MAITLAND ALCOHOL-free beaches (“Alcohol could put beach-goers in deep water”, December 6): instead of making statements regarding the consumption of alcohol at the beaches, the powers that be should make a concerted effort and stop the transgressors at Maitland beach. It is becoming a filthy dump where certain types go there to drink and litter with broken bottles and all the mess they leave behind. Mr Trollip, action speaks louder than words.

H DAVIE RATHER TEACH PUPILS TO STEAL

A PASS rate of 20% for anything is crazy (“Pupils who get 20% in maths to be passed”, December 7). Why not teach kids to steal? That way they can survive without any education, saving the department a lot of embarrassment.
