CRACK DOWN AT MAITLAND ALCOHOL-free beaches (“Alcohol could put beach-goers in deep water”, December 6): instead of making statements regarding the consumption of alcohol at the beaches, the powers that be should make a concerted effort and stop the transgressors at Maitland beach. It is becoming a filthy dump where certain types go there to drink and litter with broken bottles and all the mess they leave behind. Mr Trollip, action speaks louder than words.

H DAVIE RATHER TEACH PUPILS TO STEAL

A PASS rate of 20% for anything is crazy (“Pupils who get 20% in maths to be passed”, December 7). Why not teach kids to steal? That way they can survive without any education, saving the department a lot of embarrassment.

STEVE, JEFFREYS BAY GOOD TO SEE STARS RECOGNISED IT was awesome to see the best wing ever, Desmond Kramer, the best coach, Mike Stallenberg, and all the other legends in our “coloured” community being recognised at last. Just very disappointing that The Herald could not even devote half a page to a story about their achievements.

DISAPPOINTED NORTHERN AREAS SPORT SUPPORTER PUBLISH THE DAM LEVELS

WITH all the talk of water, or lack thereof, it is time the dam levels were published, once per week.

BOB TEAR DOWN THE FLYOVERS MR Trollip, please make it a priority to tear down those damn flyovers and give us back our city centre and seaside drive to the beachfront.

RATEPAYER PRAISE TO THE FIREFIGHTERS PRAISES to the “firemen” in Lorraine and surrounding areas, for not only saving yourselves but also all the animals!

RITA REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS SO much is being expected from the DA-led NMBM and Athol Trollip to achieve within 100 days which the ANC, Danny Jordaan and 82-year-old Ben Fihla had not done in 22 years x 365 days during their tenure. Please comrades of the ANC, remove the scales from your eyes. Work together for a better PE. Well said Ed Gutsche (“Focus on rebuilding our metro together”, December 7). BERNI

A MYBURGH (“Replies to readers’ comments”, December 8), I don’t respect Jacob Zuma as my president either and I bet there are many more like me. Respect is earned.

ARTHUR A MYBURGH, from Richmond Hill, your scolding of a private citizen for disrespecting Jacob Zuma is ludicrous! I may well ask if you have been living on planet Zuma for the last five years? No doubt they execute anyone who disrespects Zuma there, but here on planet Earth, where most have no respect for Zuma, they can say so. It is called democracy!

BARRY HOW WILL IPTS BUSES TURN? IPTS buses: when coming from town going to Cleary Park, where and how are the buses going to make a U-turn and go back into town? Huh? Show me that one! CADRE
