CHRISTMAS CAROLS

THE Boardwalk welcomes all to join its annual Sparkler and Christmas Carols event this evening at the lake from 7pm until 8pm. The event is raising funds for the Khayalethu Youth Centre. The Scheubels and Helenvale Brass Brand will sing Christmas carols and sparklers will be on sale from Boardwalk retailers.

MENDI COMMEMORAT­ION

THE BLADE Project will host a commemorat­ive event in honour of the South African labour contingent that sank with the troopship SS Mendi near the Isle of Wight, in 1917. The event is today at the SS Mendi Memorial Site, Sheya Kulati Drive, New Brighton from 5.30am. There will be a recital of SEK Mqhayi’s poem Ukuzika Kuka Mendi (The Sinking of the SS Mendi). MINI ARTS FESTIVAL

ROYAL Highness Couture will host the KwaNobuhle Mini Arts festival tomorrow at the KwaNobuhle LoveLife Centre on the corner of Ponana and Tize streets. The acts start at 9am and include Francisco, Packar, Rude Boy, Sister Black, Matase the Poet, Final Episode, BlaqNubian, King Fresh, Jamason and Aluta Asante. TECOMA CRAFT MARKET

ZAHRA’S Oriental Dance Studio presents Shake the Bay belly dance show tomorrow at the Rowallan Park Primary School hall from 4pm until 6pm. The event is to raise funds to buy sanitary towels for schoolgirl­s. Members from Knysna’s Belizimo and George’s Fariha Belly Dance Studio will be present and each of the teachers will be offering a workshop.
