G&S gets festive with movie hits

-

THE PE Gilbert & Sullivan Society will be staging Music! Movies! Magic! from next week, bringing to life favourite children’s animated movies from the classics to the latest hits through more than 30 great songs.

The show is directed by Rose Cowpar with vocal direction by Angela Freer and choreography by Dominique Teppler.

“The cast of 23 features G& S favourites and some fantastic newcomers aged from just eight years old, including Phillip Cowie, Zena Bally, Sean Cady, Carmen Alldred, Sarah MacKenzie, Litha Hewitt-Coleman, Aviwe Matikinca and a darling of the Savoy stage, Mieka Swanepoel,” Cowpar said.

Animated movies have inspired a love of music in children of all ages since Walt Disney released the iconic Snow White and the Seven Dwarves in 1937.

In G& S’s production, some of the most popular movie songs are brought together for an evening that will appeal to the whole family.

Featuring hit songs from classics such as Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King to the recent smash hits from Frozen, Tangled and Monsters Inc, there is sure to be something for everyone, according to Cowpar.

Music! Movies! Magic! will run from Tuesday to next Saturday at the Savoy Theatre.

Evening performances from 20th to the 23rd will be at 7pm with matinees on Thursday the 22nd and Saturday the 24th at 2pm.

Tickets are at Computicket outlets at just R70 for adults and R50 for children, students and pensioners.

Group bookings can be arranged through Cowpar on 072-906-1977.
