REPLIES TO READERS

-

THANKS Big Al (“Replies to readers’ comments”, December 14),for trying to explain. I have found that it is futile to explain to white people that we also have a rich sporting history and culture. They were not interested during apartheid to find out what was happening on our side and they are still not interested.

That is why many were upset when these players received their Springbok colours. And then they will tell you that they were never part of apartheid! That is why The Herald has a responsibility to inform its readers, but sadly that will surely also not happen. This will surely be cut out also.

STILL A DISAPPOINTED NORTHERN AREAS SPORT SUPPORTER

ATHEIST (“Water comes from dams and rivers”, December 20), pray do tell, oh wise one, where do the rivers and dams get their water from?

PROUD BELIEVER

OH dear Atheist, who created the dams and the rivers? Thank God for our mayor.

GEOFF Bird, thanks for your informative letter concerning Rory Riordan (“Riordan also to blame for ANC failures”, December 14). My opinions of same have now all been confirmed.

C NAN, FERNGLEN, PORT ELIZABETH

OF course we know what the term “going south” means (“Going the way of the Warriors”, December 15), but there are conventions that need to be challenged, such as the one that connects going down (bad) with south because of how the northern cartographers centuries ago flattened out a round globe to conveniently place themselves at the top and middle of the world.
