Keep an eye out for Christmas upsets at Fairview

IT might be the festive season but the Port Elizabeth racing stables are working as hard as ever to produce the winners.

A busy afternoon awaits punters at Fairview today – a full programme of 10 races, and it will be as exciting as ever.

While some other sports take a back seat this time of year, horse racing continues to keep sporting fans and punters busy.

It is also when punters look for a bonus bet or two – usually you do get some upset results.

Keep an eye on those trainers and jockeys not regular visitors to the winners’ circle.

They tend to produce their best at this time of year to keep their patrons happy.

It was good to see some outof-town visitors making their way to Fairview over the last couple of meetings.

Since the facilities upgrade, Fairview has become a very popular venue for all sorts of functions.

It is famous for its hospitality and it won’t be a bad idea to have your pre-Christmas lunch today while watching those thoroughbreds in action.

With lots of holidaymakers in town and the weather playing along, it might also be a good idea to move one of Port Elizabeth’s big race days to a December date in future.

The Friendly City hosts Derby Day in May and the Algoa Cup in October.

I am sure the Fairview organisers will be able to produce an even better racing experience in December if the Algoa Cup can be moved.

For now we are happy with today’s 10 races, and although we will be keeping an eye out for those Christmas trainers causing the upsets, one cannot overlook the excellent form of the champion trainer Alan Greeff.

The end of the East Cape season is still more than seven months away, but Greeff looks to have the trainer’s title wrapped up already.

Greg Cheyne is also well on his way to another jockey title.

It should be worth following this in-form combination.
