THIS MAN WILL BE IN CHARGE OF THE US

-

DONALD Trump’s response to the gracious, talented Meryl Streep (“Trump hits back at Streep over Golden Globe remarks”, January 10) is childish! Disturbing. Trump demonstrates once and for all that he has no self-editing mechanism! Poor self-control, he just lashes out, which indicates low emotional intelligence! And surely calling Streep “overrated” is plain stupid. It is impossible to comprehend or accept that come January 20 Trump will be in charge of America. I agree with Bill Maher, who says he will never get used to Trump. “It’s like watching a toddler play with a gun – you’re always nervous.” WEEPING

WHAT WILL COUNCILLORS EARN?

NINE additional full time councillors (“Bhisho balks at plan for metro change”, January 10)? The public should be given the details, that is the salary these will receive. Let’s have some open cards, people! PENSIONER THE arrogance of the Athol Trollip gang is extremely worrying. Parking and reconnection fees, excessive water restriction and penalties, more councillors.

Baasskap is back! NICO XOLA

REPLIES TO READERS’ COMMENTS

I REFER to chirps from Peter and pool owners with regard to topping up their pools and suing the metro (“Replies to readers’ comments”, January 10). What nonsense. Are they going to sue the Almighty above when our dams run dry? Catch a wake-up, guys. IAN THAIN ALL the pool owners nattering on about their pools “popping” out and cracking, how is this the municipality’s fault? When the water runs out, the boreholes are dry and you have no water to drink, who’s fault is it then? I think it is incredibly selfish to nag about your pool, while we are in a serious water situation! The water we still have to use is for everyone, not just for your leisure! Do you realise boreholes are not an infinite water source and do run dry very quickly? Also unscrupulous water sellers are selling my and your tap water, stolen elsewhere, for a quick buck! Get real! W DEYZEL, CHARLO, PORT ELIZABETH

CAN Annette Lovemore please tell us to whom does the God-created water in a borehole belong to? FROM ANOTHER OF HIS CREATIONS BOREHOLE water not for sale, belongs to state. This brings me to the detailed explanation from councillor Annette Lovemore (“How the law regards borehole water”, January 9). Yes, I would assume it to be correct since reference was made to certain restrictions in the law. OK, now how come we can buy name brand water in bottles from selected shops? Where does this water come from? If pure water, it might be from someone’s fountain or borehole on a farm or something to that effect. This entire issue with regard to borehole water does not tie up. “BRING back good rail system” (January 10): fully agree! As a child, every school holiday was a rail holiday, at a reasonable cost, and we saw all the beautiful things SA has to offer! Bring the rail system back to South Africa! By so doing, our roads will also be preserved as freight by rail will follow. R VACZI, HUMEWOOD, PORT ELIZABETH I SO enjoyed my laugh of the day when reading The Herald yesterday. So, we have a friendly rooster in PE who cock-a-doodle-dos at any time of day (“I know how the rooster feels”)! You go boy! What an amazing life you guys have in Stanley Street with live music right until 3.30am and a rooster having fun! DA

“ALGOA Park now littered with uncollected rubbish” (January 9): Bianca Minnie found five dogs and one puppy, all dead. On Facebook someone reported finding 20 dead dogs in Algoa Park, all gutted. I think the SPCA needs to investigate. VR D R Galloway (“SA will rue day voted DA into power”, January 5) will one day wake up in Cloud Cuckoo Land and see the African National Circus for what it really is, the biggest circus act in the world! HENDRI, BLUEWATER BAY, PORT ELIZABETH

WELL done, D R Galloway, for waking up small minds. Only great minds think alike. A MYBURGH, CENTRAL, PORT ELIZABETH
