PORT Elizabeth’s Vusi Nova and newcomer Amanda Black have scored a combined eight nominations for this year’s 16th Metro FM Music Awards.

No stranger to awards and nominations Nova, who released Naninina last year, is nominated for three awards: Best Afro Pop Album, Best Produced Album and Best Styled Album.

He said he was excited and happy “the sleepless nights and my work are being recognised”.

“It’s a good feeling when you’re being rewarded for the hard work. We’re always travelling so the recognition is amazing.

“The one I really want is in Best Pop Afro Album,” said Nova.

Black is going up against Nova in the Best Afro Pop Album category. She said she had heard she had made the nominations list via social media and was excited.

“It’s an honour for any artist to be nominated. I’m still young in this business, my album went platinum, and I thought it couldn’t get better than 2016. But this year seems to be exceeding the last,” said Black.

“I’ve worked so hard, really hard, and put a lot of sleepless nights into making the songs and album.

“I’m crossing fingers for all categories and I hope Amazulu really touched a lot of people,” she said.

This album went platinum three weeks after its release; besides Best Pop Album she has been nominated for Best Female Album, Best New Artist, Best R&B Single and Song of the Year.

Naninina went platinum in under four months and was chasing double platinum, said Nova, who was in Port Elizabeth last week to host a traditional ceremony at his family home in KwaDwesi.

Voting lines are open until February 12.

The 16th Metro FM Music Awards will take place on February 23 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli ICC in Durban.
