Gelvandale going all out to seal title
GELVANDALE will continue their push to a maiden NMB Premier League cricket title when they host Heatherbank on Sunday.
Gelvan have swept aside all in their patch this season while winning eight consecutive matches.
They have now built up a 16point lead over their nearest rivals PECC, although some other teams have games in hand.
There is some way to go still in the league and that chasing pack will be hoping Gelvan falters at some stage to allow them back into the race. But at the moment the northern areas outfit appears unstoppable.
There are only two matches scheduled for tomorrow, with the more intriguing the game between SA Home Loans Union and Jendamark United in Park Drive.
The teams have lost only once each this season, with both of those defeats being at the hands of Gelvandale.
So it would not be out of place to assume that whichever team wins this encounter will remain in the hunt for honours and the other probably not.
Defending champions Mecer Madibaz 1 may still be reeling from their rare defeat to United Brothers last weekend, but they will quickly need to shift back into gear when they host an ever-improving PECC at the NMMU campus on Sunday.
After their double over the students at the weekend, United Brothers will be wanting to continue the momentum when they travel to face a tough SuperSpar Despatch side.
The weekend’s fixtures are (home teams first, 10am start): Tomorrow: Madibaz 2 v Seaman’s Renault Old Grey; Union v United Sunday: Motherwell v Schauderville, Buco Uitenhage v Northville, Gelvandale v EMediaIT Heatherbank, Madibaz 1 v PECC, Despatch v United Brothers ý THE latest standings, subject to ratification by the log-keeper, are (five matches unless stated): 1 Gelvandale 46 (8), 2 PECC 30 (7), 3 United 25 (5), 4 Old Grey 24 (6), 5 United Brothers 24 (7), 6 Union 23 (5), 7 Madibaz 1 15 (4), 8 Despatch 15 (6), 9 Schauderville 11 (7), 10 Uitenhage 9 (6), 11 Heatherbank 7, 12 Motherwell 6 (5), 13 Madibaz 2 0 (2), 14 Northville 0 (5)
